How Will the Production Spyder Differ?

07.12.07 | (Leave A Comment)

By now we all have heard over and over again that the current version of the Can-Am Spyder, model number A18E, is a prototype, and there is no guarantee that anything on the prototype will make it onto the production model, the A18H.  This can be a little disquieting to those that have committed deposits based on the looks and test rides of the prototype.  While BRP continues to be tight-lipped, especially with the public at large, we here at Three Wheel Revolution do have some insight into a few of the changes coming.

The two confirmed changes to the production model in stock delivery trim are as follows:

Due to the overwhelmingly negative comments about the heat from the radiator venting directly onto the rider’s right knee, the cooling fan routing is going to be modified.  Below is a picture of how the prototype’s right-side vent looks:

How the change will manifest itself remains to be seen.  It could be a change to the cooling fan itself with no discernible cosmetic changes, or it may involve completely reworking the layout of the vent.  All we know is the heat problem will be addressed through some venting “fix.”

The second confirmed changed is a reworking of the rear fender, what in motorcycling is called a “hugger.” (See Below)

Apparently there is a problem with the fender working itself loose.  The most likely culprit is the combination of the license plate holder and light being placed far out on the back of the fender, increasing the leveraging force on mounting points already dealing with the added vibration and jarring associated with being an unsprung (non suspended) part.  Again, there is no news on the design or implementation of the fix, just that one is in the works.

It has also become well known that, in response to complaints from test riders, BRP has added handlebar risers to the list of accessories to be offer on the production model.  This is, however, an option, and not stock, so it will not effect the production model in stock trim.

Three Wheel Revolution will continue to provide updates to other possible changes as they become available.
