3 Reasons Hard Core Motorcyclists Will (Want To) Shun the Can-Am Spyder

06.05.07 | (Leave A Comment)

1. It doesn’t lean. - Hard core motorcycle enthusiasts will claim that a vehicle isn’t a motorcycle if it doesn’t lean.  Well, possibly.  But the Spyder is new, and it is different.  Having rode one, I can tell you that, though it doesn’t lean, there is skill needed in getting this thing to corner tightly at speed.

2. It isn’t as convenient to park. - Motorcyclists, not at all, but a lot of them, have come to believe that the small size of their motorcycle lends itself to parking anywhere, such as on sidewalks and in striped off no parking zones.  True, it is bigger than most motorcycles, but its still a lot smaller than most cars, and two of the Spyders can still use one parking space if done correctly.

3. You won’t be able to lane split/ lane share with it. - Okay, this one may only apply to motorcyclists in California, and in certain locales outside the United States where lane splitting, or the more politically correct term, lane sharing, is not technically illegal, and widely practiced.  But even where lane sharing is permitted there are only a few instances when lane sharing is safe and appropriate.  The Spyder is still small and has great power to weight ratio as compared to a car, and will be able to maneuver in traffic easier because of it.

The Can-Am Spyder is not a motorcycle, at least not in the sense most of us motorcyclists have come to define them, but it is a fast, fun, open vehicle, and to a lot of motorcyclists, that is what we enjoy about riding, an that the Spyder would make an excellent addition to any motorcyclist’s stable.
