The stand out feature of the Can-Am Spyder is it offers the open feel of a motorcycle with the stability of three wheels. No more having to lean, or counter steer, or put one’s feet down at a stop. This opens the greater experience of motorcycling to a as yet under served market. Below is a list of the groups I expect will top the list of interested parties.
Former motorcyclists - It doesn’t matter why they left, the draw is strong for most former motorcyclists, and the Spyder offers a variety of resolutions to common reasons motorcyclists leave the sport. It could be an injury, which make balancing a motorcycle at a stop or in motion difficult, or it could be the need for more personal security, with motorcyclists being as inherently dangerous as they are. The Spyder, with its three wheel stance, addresses all these safety concerns.
Those that always wanted to ride, and couldn’t - basically, people in the same boat as above, just that they never got into riding for the reasons the above got out.
Sport photographers/ videographers - Have you seen the swarm of motorcycles at the front certain types of races, like a marathon, or bicycle race? They use the small size and openness of a motorcycle to move quickly about the field and get intimately close pictures of contestants. The Spyder would be great at this job. More room for equipment and less jostling about.
Significant others - how many motorcyclists out there are in one of these two dilemmas? Either they would love to have their significant other ride with them, but the other won’t for various reasons most likely stated above, or the motorcyclist themselves is hesitant to “allow” their significant other to ride a motorcycle, given the risk involved. The Spyder is a vehicle motorcyclists could feel better about having someone close to them out on. In the same vein of thinking, the Spyder sells itself to fence sitters who have held back their significant others from their desire to purchase a bike based on safety concerns.
Families - In California, where it only takes a driver’s license to ride a Spyder, a Spyder can be operated by a wide range of family members: Parents, driving age children, etc. Since it isn’t limited to those holding a motorcycle license (at least here) the Spyder doubles or even triples its utility to the right family.
Technophiles - Hey, this is cutting edge, and that alone will drive interest among people who live for technology.
Collectors - Now no collection is complete without the one and only motorcycle-roadster crossover.
Think I missed anyone?
