10 Things to Know/ Do Before the Test Ride

So you’re thinking you may want to head on down to a Can-Am Spyder test ride event and try one out. I would highly encourage you to. But before you head out the door, there are some things you shoud know and do first:

1. Contact the dealer holding the event to ensure they are available. Make an appointment if necessary. When I went to test ride I discovered the dates on the online calendar were off by a few days, so call ahead.

2. Know whether or not you have to have a Motorcycle License to operate the Spyder in your state. Here in California you only need a Class C driver’s license.

3. Take your license with you. The dealer will most likely have to take a photocopy of it, for insurance purposes.

4. Dress appropriately. Long pants are a must. A long sleeve shirt may also be required. Call and ask first.

5. Bring your own gear. Most event holders should have helmets available for the test ride, but if you have your own, take it. Test helmets are the industry equivelent of rental bowling shoes.

6. Ensure you know how to operate a motorcycle style transmission, complete with hand clutch. The automatic versions are not likley to be available at the test ride, and if you can’t shift, you can’t take the Spyder out for a test ride.

7. Be prepared to fill out a questionaire following the test ride. Can Am is using the feed back to improve the Spyder. It benefits them and you.

8. Bring a camera. You will want something to show friends and family.

9. Know ahead of time the dealer will likely not allow two-up riding. If your signifigant other wants a ride, make sure they are fully qualified to test ride themselves.

10. Have fun.
